About YUWA
Established in 2009, YUWA is a registered not-for-profit, purely youth-run and led organization that promotes youth participation through empowerment and advocacy. YUWA was born out of a group of committed youths, unofficially working in this sector since 2005. The initial focus was to develop the leadership skills of the youths involved, to train as youth activists, and to advocate for change, thus resulting in a wide and diverse array of knowledge, skills, and experience in this sector. It led to the realization of the seriousness of youth issues and the need to act, which took the shape of YUWA. YUWA currently works in three thematic areas: Active Citizenship, Sexual and Reproductive Rights, and Research Unit.
Department: Program Department
The Program Department of YUWA is responsible for implementing programs and projects under the thematic areas of Active Citizenship, Sexual and Reproductive Health, and Rights and Research unit. Through initiatives aimed at fostering active citizenship, YUWA empowers individuals to engage meaningfully within their communities and advocate for transparent governance. Simultaneously, the organization works tirelessly to improve access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services and information, while advocating for policies that uphold reproductive rights and health equity. Additionally, YUWA conducts research and advocacy efforts to advance human rights, social justice, and equity, with a focus on marginalized communities. By executing programs under these thematic umbrellas, the Program Department plays a pivotal role in realizing YUWA's vision of young people at the forefront of decision-making level.
Roles and responsibilities
Project management:
- Execute projects within the Program Department according to the annual work plan.
- Prepare and work for project approval and other government procedures regarding project.
- Review and adapt projects based on program insights, collaborating with the Program Department.
- Monitor project budgets, working closely with the Finance team for accurate reporting.
- Support the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of YUWA’s strategic plan.
- Troubleshoot project challenges, seeking input from the Program Coordinator and executive board when needed.
- Ensure timely delivery of high-quality project outputs.
Reporting and documentation
- Create comprehensive reports aligned with YUWA's and funders' requirements.
- Contribute to quarterly progress reports and annual organizational reports in collaboration with the program team.
- Monitor the appropriate use of social media to update the program activities and reach out to relevant stakeholders.
Communication
- Assist in formulating and executing internal and external communication strategies.
- Collaborate with the program coordinator and communication department to develop and execute goal-oriented communication plans.
- Ensure learning outcomes are thoughtfully included in new programs and strategically disseminated.
- Cultivate creative strategies to engage YUWA's target beneficiaries effectively.
Advocacy and leadership
- Lead advocacy efforts related to leadership, collaborating with the team for documentation and implementation.
- Contribute to the development of funding proposals and review them as needed.
- Coordinate and facilitate cross-learning internally within different projects and amongst their internal network and the partner organization.
Minimum Qualifications and Transferable Skills
- Minimum university degree or higher in Public Health, Social Science, Development Studies, or other relevant discipline.
- A minimum of two years of professional experience working in the fields of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights will be preferred.
- Experience with coordination, convening roles and facilitation skills will be a plus.
- Experience working in a civil society organization, local or provincial governments or any other government entities will be an added advantage.
- Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office package (including MS Work, Excel, and PowerPoint) and the internet is an asset.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to conduct research, analyze data, and present findings.
- Familiarity with web analytics and social media platforms, and the ability to leverage these tools for effective communication and outreach is preferable.
Reporting Lines
The Program officer will report to the Program Coordinator, who is responsible for overseeing the department. The officer will collaborate closely with the communication and finance department and work in coordination with program officers and other team members.
Working Relationships
The officer will establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, including program coordinators, the communication department, and other relevant teams within the organization. They will also engage with external stakeholders such as donors and their partners.
Duration and Contract
Contract: The contract will be a fixed-term contract for 3 months, with a one-month probation period. This contract is subject to extension depending upon the funding. The contract will include details of compensation, benefits, and other relevant terms and conditions.

- Be below 28 years of age.
e. Programmatic knowledge and skill
- It has a good understanding of relevant programmatic issues within the project's scope.
- Contributes to the preparation of reports and project briefs, identification of innovative ways of implementing the project, and all other activities related to partnership building.
f. Communication and interpersonal skills
- Liaises regularly with all internal and external stakeholders involved in the project.
- Uses the established communication mechanisms to communicate and/give feedback.
- Have an attitude to learn and unlearn, ability to engage in impactful and constructive conversation on difficult topics.
- Fluent in both English and Nepali, both written and oral is required.
