It just had been a month or so that I joined YUWA as an intern. Before that, I worked for a short span of time as a volunteer and had got some idea about how things work in the office. First reason for me wanting to join YUWA was that I wanted learn more about the Nepalese youth as I had done most of my schooling away from home in India . Hence I wanted to know little about the youths in my country. I felt that this was a responsibility and an opportunity to get to know my own people on a very deep level. YUWA has been a great learning place for this. I have learnt many important aspects of daily livelihood and the roles that we youths should play in the country. The office to me is more than an “office” it is my second home, like a school where I learn new things daily. I have learnt a lot from my mentors here and hopefully have had some of the good qualities rubbed onto me. I recently took part in one of the programs conducted by YUWA(Reaching out young minds) and learnt a great deal about HIV and AIDS and about the situation of Nepal in this matter. I hope to take part in even more future programs especially “Praramba” regarding leadership and “CYS(Center for youth studies)”.YUWA has given me insight on matters where I had been blind before. The office staff members have taught me many values and virtues which will help me throughout my life. I have met many new individuals ever since I joined YUWA. Each person is friendly, unique and absolutely unforgettable. The lunch breaks in YUWA are like family eat outs or just like eating lunch at home whenever lunch was cooked at the office itself, these were parts of the day were interaction was not limited to any subject and a time everyone looked forward to. Another memorable experience in YUWA was the Dashain “Changa Chait” celebration at the office.
If anyone asks me about my experience in YUWA, I would just say one word, and that is “AWESOME”
